And we’re off …

🧑‍💻 Marketing word of the week: “Mindshare”

Mindshare refers to how much space your brand occupies in your customer’s mind compared to competitors. It’s less about general awareness (have they heard of you) and more about top-of-mind presence (are you their first thought in the product category).

Google is a good example. When most people think of search engines, it’s the first brand that comes to mind, so much so in fact that googling is a verb for searching.

High mindshare leads to brand preference and repeat business, making it valuable for marketers. Achieving mindshare is about consistent branding, memorable marketing, and delivering value over time.

🤖 AI word of the week: “Multimodal”

When AI systems can process and combine more than one type of input or output, like text, images, audio, or video, within the same model, they are said to be multimodal.

For example, a multimodal AI could look at a photo of a mountain while also reading a caption about it and then answer a question by blending the visual and text information.

Google’s MUM (multitask unified model) is an example of a multimodal AI system. However, MUM is also multitask, meaning it can do multiple types of understanding and reasoning at once, like translation, classification, or summarization without any retraining.

Most LLMs started as text-only, but the frontier models have moved to multimodality. ChatGPT’s GPT-4o, Google’s Gemini, and Claude’s Claude 3 are all examples of multimodal AI models.

🦇 Introduction to week 108: “RIP to Ozzy Osbourne”

I was bummed to hear this week that Ozzy Osbourne had passed away. I was a fan of his since I was a young kid buying his CDs. From there, I worked back and got into Black Sabbath in high school. It remains one of my all-time favorite bands.

In his honor, I want to include one of my favorite Black Sabbath songs.

Thank you for supporting Hamsterdam and the cause of SEO & AI learning. 🙏

Enjoy the vibes:

Missed last week? Don’t worry, I got you! Read Part 107 to catch up.
