How to Find Reddit Opportunities for GEO Using Prompt-Tracking Data (Practical Insights)

Reddit is a commonly retrieved source domain in AI assistant answers (even if its referral traffic is comparatively low):
Just look at my website’s AI visibility data for a set of 50 tracked SEO/GEO-themed prompts in Peec AI:

Reddit is the fourth highest retrieved domain.
If you’re looking for a comprehensive Reddit strategy, there are already some good guides out there, like this one from Ahrefs.
In this post, I want to talk practically about how to identify Reddit opportunities for GEO (generative engine optimization) strategies and take action.
My first move is to identify the Reddit discussions that are relevant to my audience’s user journey with AI assistants.
To find that data, you can use a prompt-tracking tool like Peec AI or Profound. (I’ll be showing screenshots from Peec AI in this guide.)
Filtering your prompt-tracking data is the first step to take action. (I’ve discussed that in another guide to using Peec AI.)
In this case, I’ll look at the last 30 days for AI Overviews data for my tracked prompts in the Brand Visibility & Organic Content topic:

If we look at the top domains for retrievals within this topic of prompts for AI Overviews, we see that Reddit is one of the three most frequently retrieved domains (after LinkedIn and YouTube, two other UGC platforms that’d also be worth exploring):

If we click into Reddit, we can see the individual URLs from that domain that are being retrieved the most in the AI Overview responses associated with my tracked prompts for this topic:

At this point, I have two options …
The first would be to contribute to those discussions on Reddit using my personal Reddit account.
That could be useful, since we know these URLs are already being retrieved for AI Overviews answers.
But I’d like to go with a second option: take inspiration from those prior discussions to find similar, current conversations that I can contribute to.
This is a more forward-looking strategy that tries to anticipate the conversations that might be relevant sources for AI Overviews answers down the line.
If I take a look at the conversations from our screenshot from Peec AI above, we see that common themes are improving visibility in AI search, the relationship between SEO and AI search, declining organic traffic and reach, and similar.
To find discussions to contribute to on Reddit, we can go to Ask Reddit and search for subreddits related to these themes, for example:

I get returned a list of subreddits that are relevant to the types of discussions where it would make sense for me to contribute, based on my areas of knowledge and AI visibility goals:

From there, I can visit those subreddits and try to find conversations where it might make sense to contribute, such as here:

It’s the type of discussion that I think my audience might find relevant and that also could potentially contribute as a source URL to a future AI Overviews answer along my audience’s user journey.
Here was my response, by the way (we’ll see how long it lasts!):

That Ahrefs article I linked to in the beginning has some good tips around Reddit accounts, like having designated brand accounts and then individual accounts for employees.
Since I’m a one-man consultancy, I just use my personal Reddit account.
I believe using personal accounts on Reddit is the best approach because the goal is to provide genuinely insightful and helpful content that engenders goodwill, not to be promotional (which will likely backfire).
Lastly, remember that Reddit is a long-game (not a quick win).
It’s tempting to start posting in every Reddit conversation you see influencing your AI visibility data, but that’s short sighted.
The real goal for a Reddit strategy for GEO purposes is to establish your brand’s narrative and expertise, reinforcing the information you say about yourself on your own website.
Don’t be fooled by agencies promising fast results with Reddit. They’re likely using bots or illegitimate accounts.
Play the long game, contribute meaningfully, and try to build genuine goodwill. This will have the best impact on not just your AI visibility but your brand’s reputation.
And, of course, if you want a hand with your GEO strategy overall, I’m an independent consultant ready and willing to provide help and guidance.
Until next time, enjoy the vibes:
