How to Find Content Ideas in Peec AI (An Owned Content Strategy)

Artistic image symbolizing content ideation.

There are two primary types of content in GEO strategies: owned content and earned content. In this post, we’ll focus on owned content opportunities, like finding topics for your own blog.

If you’re new to Peec AI, I wrote a comprehensive guide that can get you started. I’d suggest checking that out first.

For the Peec AI veterans, this post will be highly actionable and instructive, using my own account for EthanLazuk.com as the example.

The first step in coming up with content ideas is filtering your visibility data (Topics, Tags, and Models).

GEO (generative engine optimization) is a topic I’d like to focus on for content ideas, so I’ll filter my data by the last 30 days, informational intent, AI Overviews, and my Generative Engine Optimization topic (group of prompts):

That gives us a good idea of who our competitors (or, in this case, brands I track out of respect for their content) are for that topic, model, and tag:

Now to start taking action, let’s go to the URLs tab and see which sources are getting the most retrievals (usage as sources in the chats corresponding to the prompts we’re tracking).

We can get a quick snapshot of good sources to study by looking at Trending URLs (which are increasing in retrievals lately):

If we’re wondering which types of content to create, we can look at the URL Types section, where we see that Articles and How-To Guides are the dominant content types:

Equipped with just this information, we can start to put together a content strategy.

Or if we wanted to go broader, we could look at the entire list of URLs for this GEO Topic, and maybe filter them by ones trending up in retrievals:

Here we see a good selection of YouTube videos included, which is a strong hint that creating video content would be a valuable aspect to our content strategy. (As I said in another article about GEO vs. SEO, multimodal content is prominent in AI assistant sources.)

But what if we wanted to get specific and look at sources at the prompt level?

That’s easy enough. We just go to our prompts, filtered by our Tag, Model, and Topic, and select one of interest.

In this case, I think I’ll go with “Assess the long-term value of integrating Generative Engine Optimization into a broader digital marketing strategy.”

By clicking into that prompt and scrolling down, we can click “URLs” and then “All URLs” to see which sources are associated with its chats:

The first thing I notice is that most of the retrieved sources are general guides to GEO. There are no specific sources that speak to this prompt’s topic directly.

That’s a gap, and an opportunity.

If I were creating a content strategy, I might include a post such as, “How GEO Integrates into Broader Digital Marketing Strategies.” (Update: I wrote this post. Let’s monitor it and see if it gets used as a source!)

Update 7/23: My article was used as a source in an AI Mode chat, confirming the strategy can work:

And although we’re focused on owned content here, we can also see many sources are willing to mention competitors. So there’s also the possibility of some type of partnership to get a relevant third-party mention. But that’s for another post.

Also, what I’ve shown you here are just some of the many ways to discover content ideas within Peec AI.

There are plenty of others (like interpreting fanout queries), but what I’ve shown you here are the quickest and most actionable, IMO.

One thing I’ll also say is that the Domain Types most appropriate for owned content ideation are typically Competitor and Corporate content.

(I did separate posts on UGC and Editorial content.)

Lastly, when it comes to creating the content, after you’ve gotten an idea of what to create, all of the usual SEO/GEO suggestions apply:

  • Write in semantic triples (subject > predicate > object) and use known entities rather than pronouns.
  • Follow a logical heading hierarchy (especially with question headings).
  • Use a bottom-line-up-front (BLUF) writing style, and follow the inverted pyramid.
  • Pay attention to EEAT signals, like naming a credentialed author or reviewer.
  • Keep the content fresh, especially any relevant statistics.
  • Be original; commodity content that anyone can produce has little-to-no value for AI assistants.

I hope you’ve found this guide helpful.
