Hamsterdam Part 88

Opening notes, thoughts, and musings:

And we’re off …

🧑‍💻 Marketing word of the week: “Word-of-mouth marketing”

Word-of-mouth marketing, or WOMM, is a strategy that encourages consumers to share information about products, services, or brands with others, leveraging personal recommendations to build credibility and drive sales.

Word of mouth marketing types.

WOMM relies on natural conversations and experiences that customers share, making it a powerful and influential tool when it comes to purchasing decisions.

Some of the key drivers of WOMM include social currency (people share things that make them look good), triggers (talking about items that are top of mind), emotion, and publicity (the more visual something is, the more likely it’ll get shared).

Advantages of WOMM include credibility, cost-effectiveness, and the potential to go viral, whereas downsides include a lack of control and measurement challenges.

🤖 AI word of the week: “Weights and biases”

In machine learning, weights and biases are parameters used in models to make accurate predictions by adjusting the importance and influence of input data.

Weights determine how much each input feature influences the prediction, while biases adjust predictions independently from inputs, helping the model fit data better.

Why are they important? For one, adjusting weights and biases through training (like with gradient descent) helps minimize errors to improve prediction accuracy. There’s also flexibility, allowing the model to adapt to complex patterns within data.

😄 Introduction to week 88: Revisit your blog

I worked on a site this week that had a lot of historical blog posts. The site had been through a few CMS migrations over the years, and it was clear some of the older blog posts had their formatting tweaked as a result.

It was time consuming, but by reviewing all of the blog posts, I was able to find a lot of opportunities for adjusting formatting to improve readability.

If you have a blog that’s several years old and has been through a site migration, spend some time reviewing your older posts. You may be surprised at what you find.

Thank you for supporting Hamsterdam and the cause of SEO & AI learning. 🙏

Enjoy the vibes:

Missed last week? Don’t worry, I got you! Read Part 87 to catch up.
