And we’re off …

🧑‍💻 Marketing word of the week: “Zeitgeist”

Zeitgeist refers to capturing the current spirit, mood, or cultural trends of a particular era. It involves a deep understanding of what consumers care about, how they think, and what drives their behavior at a particular point in time.

Marketers can harness the zeitgeist by incorporating timely themes, societal conversations, or trending topics or issues into their campaigns.

🤖 AI word of the week: “Zero-shot learning”

Zero-shot learning is a machine learning method where AI models recognize and classify items they’ve never seen during training. This is accomplished by leveraging learned patterns or related knowledge.

😄 Introduction to week 91: Pay Attention

A quick note on paying attention … I was overseeing a project where a substantial amount of existing content was being rewritten for a website’s blog.

It fell to an external team to publish this content. Of course, being these were existing pages, the content should be published at each page’s current URL.

The problem? The external team started republishing the content as new pages.

The end result was that two sets of similar pages were being made available on the site.

Luckily I caught this early and we were able to rectify the situation, but it’s a good reminder to pay attention to the little details.

What seems like a clear directive to you may not always be the same for everyone else on a project.

Thank you for supporting Hamsterdam and the cause of SEO & AI learning. 🙏

Enjoy the vibes:

🍟 SEO tips & tidbits

Actionable tips, cool tidbits, and other snackable findings and observations that can be teaching moments.

Did an audit on a huge eCommerce site. Tens of thousands of near-duplicate URLs. Client’s dev team is uncooperative, constantly undoing fixes. Client asked about using AI for content, I said "dude, you'll kill the site!". He said "That's my fear but the site is imploding though!"My response:

AIOs appear *far more regularly* than you may think. I partnered with the incredible Tomek Rudzki from ZipTie.dev to analyse 155,000 searches from AlsoAsked data that were classified into one of Google's 8 "semantic query classes" to see how often AIOs appear and the results were pretty shocking 😮‍💨
